Tumblrponies that are instructed are generally sent instructions, recommendations and suggestions via the ask box, rather than questions. Depending on the will of the author, these may be considered as absolute orders, leading to amusing scenarios wherein the controlled character does something outside their normal behaviour. This is generally in contrast to straight blog ponies.
The style of these blogs draws somewhat from the Homestuck webcomic, but the authors may have adapted the formula to meet their own requirements.
